100 favourite things

I had recently received Carly Jacob's newsletter in my inbox. Carly is the maestro behind the blog Smaggle, a place where she shares very witty and engaging commentary on pretty much every aspect of life. I am quite new to Carly's blog but I love the way she writes and was particularly intrigued by her … Continue reading 100 favourite things

Becoming unstuck

Becoming unstuck

I have spent the past two weeks getting very little done, but I have connected with some amazing friends to engage headlong into those very important conversations about what truly matters...heart, family, home, food, and meaningful connections. While I am behind in my housework and have given very little attention to the garden, I have … Continue reading Becoming unstuck

A simple week

A simple week

This update on last weeks happening is a tad late. We are already well into a new week! These past few weeks have been flying by, for no profound reason that I can see. There is the same running around for sport, the school run, cooking, cleaning and laundry, but for whatever reason, time seems … Continue reading A simple week

Searching within

Searching within

While not wanting to fall down a rabbit hole by continuing from my post earlier in the week regarding one's purpose in life, the whole experience of becoming open to the concept of spirituality and searching for a meaningful existence has been like unlocking a secret door. Suddenly, I am being presented with dialogue and material … Continue reading Searching within

On finding purpose

On finding purpose

I feel like this is a topic that absorbs my thoughts and oftentimes arrests my ability to move forward. I am awe-inspired by those that have happened upon a place on their journey in life that is meaningful and gives them a deep sense of purpose. I am drawn to their thoughts and their writings, … Continue reading On finding purpose

Welcome! I’m Paula, a mother of five living with my family on a windy hilltop in an old farmhouse. We are surrounded by cows and sheep (the farmers, not ours), with some gorgeous views and a veggie garden that desperately needs weeding. Here I document our days together as a family. Thankyou for visiting!

Time for me to take leave again to find my light. Hope everyone stays safe and well.
My little old kitchen with its narrow bench and deep low-shelved pantry, undulating floor and a wide sink top under the kitchen window. The overflow runs in the wrong direction and dribbles into the cupboards below. An old combustion stove once sat in a wide recess in the wall, the brickwork and plinth are still there, but the cavity now shelves pots and mixing bowls, pie dishes and serving ware. The casement window sticks fast at times, but through it I can see the rising sun shining over the hill in autumn and spring, the clouds misting over the treetops, or often just the distorted view through the bags hanging there, stuck in suspension, washed and drying for another use. It will never grace the page of a magazine, but I am in love with this dilapidated space all the same and will miss it even more than the high ceilings, the views over the valley, the history and character of this old home.
I can not draw one schmick, but I had a lot of fun working on this phenology wheel from the Roots issue of @taprootmag. It was a very grounding exercise reflecting on the changing months and the observations perceived and experiences had. There was therapy in the creative exercise, thinking of the images that best reflected each month for me, and us as a family. The kids have seen my endeavours and are keen to start on their own wheels. A practice in mindfulness and being connected.
It is wet and autumny. The rain has been coming down softly, but consistently, for days. The river has swollen, cascading over the crossing at the bottom of our long drive. We are officially flooded in.
It's drizzly and cool and better still it's Sunday. I don't have be anywhere, except here with this beautiful soft alpaca in my hands, or in the kitchen with the oven and apron on, flour on the table a roast in the oven. This is Catkin by @foxandfolk, a really fun and adorable knit, though that last row of P3tgtbl required coffee breaks! Raisins are soaking in chai tea (thankyou for sharing your recipe @twiggstudios) for a 'trial' batch of hot cross buns.
For all the Irish men and women on my Dad's side, thank you. How, amidst all those beautiful musical surnames I copped mine, I do not know!. Listening to all the Furey's greats while I wait for the soda bread to bake.
